Hear My Voice

Hear My Voice is a Barnsley based programme of creative opportunities, activities and poetry-themed events, designed to engage, stimulate and inspire interest in the spoken and written word.

In the first year, Barnsley Museums inaugurated Ian McMillan as Barnsley’s first ever Poet Laureate to drive the project forward. Within his role, he has created a plethora of poetic works to mark and interpret key events in Barnsley’s calendar and acted as a Champion and ambassador for the programme. You can find Ian’s poems HERE

As part of the programme, we have been working with schools, community groups and organisations across Barnsley to host a series of festivals and events, from creative writing literacy projects, to memory cafes, outdoor art walks, poems in the pub and much more! People from a whole range of backgrounds and interests have discovered a new found love of poetry.

To kick-start the programme we ran a competition to find Barnsley's best poets to see the winning entries CLICK HERE

Hear My Voice has been generously funded by Barnsley TUC Training Ltd and programmed and delivered by Barnsley Museums. We work in partnership with DVLP, Creative Recovery and others.
