The winners of Cannon Hall’s wedding weekend prize have been announced. Adam Beasley and his bride Claire Medlam, both from Barnsley, won the highly sought after prize. It included a discounted wedding at the stunning Georgian country house and a bottle of champagne.

A pair of antique decorative cannon will be proudly on display at Cannon Hall, the stunning Georgian country house, during the bank holiday weekend. Lovingly restored as part of the Hall’s Cannon! at Cannon event, visitors will have a unique opportunity to inspect the magnificent pieces. Beautifully crafted the cannon are cast with intricate designs of eagles and other detail.

Vikings have landed in Barnsley

Viking warriors will be taking over the town’s award winning museum this Saturday. To celebrate Experience Barnsley’s latest exhibition, Heroes: Viking kings, conquerors and explorers, a band of Nordic idols will be roaming the galleries. Here they will be telling tales of their fierce battles and disclosing fascinating secrets about their eventful lives. People are invited to come to the free family fun day where there will be lots of activities taking place as well as storytelling, crafts and an authentic Viking longboat.

Happy couple receive guard of honour from the redcoats at Cannon Hall

Bride and groom, Dawn Duerden and Andrew Haigh, will be welcomed in spectacular fashion when they marry at Cannon Hall on Sunday, 1 May. On their arrival to the stunning Georgian country house, they will receive the guard of honour from a number of Wellington’s proud redcoats. The soldiers will be taking part in fierce battles in the Hall’s stunning park and gardens throughout the weekend, as part of a 150 strong Napoleonic re-enactment.

Artists appointed for Somme Commemoration project

Artists, musson+retallick, have been appointed by Barnsley Council to create a piece of public art. It has been funded as part of an Arts Council grant to support the delivery of the town’s new Public Arts Strategy. The piece commissioned will remember the many brave soldiers who fell in the Battle of the Somme which took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916.
