A Civic event took place at 1pm at Barnsley Town Hall and was attended by councillors, VIPs, local regiments and over 1000 members of the public. Over 200 pupils from local schools also attended, and the programme reflected the project’s focus on young people.
Goff Griffiths of the British Legion hosted the event, which featured a number of young people reading poems, a soldier’s letter and comments about the schools involvement. Colour flags were present and 1 minute’s silence was observed. Barnsley Metropolitan Band also played a variety of music including the traditional ‘Last Post’ as well as a medley of WW1 songs to sing along to.
