A Barnsley Story Book Launch

Join us on 28th May for the book launch of ‘A Barnsley Story’, a responsive photography project by Sam Batley asking the people of Barnsley – those who work here or feel a connection to the place – to delve into what their relationship is to the town.

Wednesday 28 May 2025

5:00pm – 7:00pm

Library @Lightbox, 1 The Glass Works, Barnsley, S70 1GW

Free entry

Sam Batley says “The publication curates the responses of the folk who took part in the open call last year, into one place. Uniting the stories together. Designed by Spencer Hughes and hand bound in the Borough studio.

The event will be a celebration of the stories and perspectives shared over this period of time. Bringing together those who submitted. And open space for those who are interested in the legacy of the project.

There will be talks by myself, and participants from the project. Discussing the book and what it felt like to create. Leaning into to the shared experience of the town, creating conversation and community.

Come down for a look at the book and have a natter!”

On the night a limited number of publications will be available to purchase, with proceeds going towards EyUp! Charity.

A Barnsley Story was commissioned and funded by Barnsley Council’s CDF programme ‘Storying Barnsley’, alongside Sam Batley’s film ‘The Town I Love So Well’. Read more about the projects: https://www.barnsley-museums.com/projects/storying-barnsley/a-barnsley-story
