Accessible Christmas activities at Cannon Hall Museum

Cannon Hall Museum will host accessible Christmas sessions for families to enjoy during the festive season.

There will be relaxed grotto sessions at their Very Victorian Christmas on the 3,4, 10 and 17 December at 11am. There will be fewer people, more space and lower noise levels for those who prefer a calmer experience.

The magical visit will include a traditional Christmas tale, games with Victorian toys, ending with a visit to the main man himself.

While the sessions are designed to be more accessible for those with additional needs, they are open to anyone who feels that they would benefit from more relaxed visit.

There will also be relaxed sessions for interactive storytelling performances with Chris Cade on Saturday, 3 and Sunday, 4 December at 12noon. He will reignite visitors’ love for Christmas with a totally unique reading of ‘A Christmas Carol’. A British Sign Language interpreter will be in attendance on both days at 1.30pm and 2.30pm.

Councillor Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Christmas is a magical time for everyone, and we want everyone to be able to experience the fantastic, festive activities at Cannon Hall Museum. The stunning setting will transport visitors back to traditional Victorian celebrations. Accessibility is extremely important to Barnsley Museums with Experience Barnsley Museum recently being awarded the Best Accessible Museum award.”
