Barnsley Museums fly the flag with two prestigious awards

Worsbrough Mill Country Park and Cannon Hall Museum Park and Gardens have retained the prestigious Green Flag award. 

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Both attractions are important to visitors near and far as places to exercise, meet with loved ones and relax and wander. The news that both have retained the award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team and volunteers who make them a great space for everyone to enjoy.

An incredible amount of work has gone into enhancing green spaces and supporting natural habitats. Improvements have included improving woodlands and meadows, planting of new flowerbeds, and installing willow-weaving sculptures. 

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “We are incredibly lucky in Barnsley to have an abundance of stunning green spaces, and it is important that we protect and preserve them. The Barnsley Museums team and their dedicated volunteers do an incredible job in looking after Cannon Hall Parkland and Worsbrough Mill Country Park, and the award really showcased this. We know how much people appreciate visiting and the benefits they can bring to health and wellbeing.”
