Unique history tour travels around Barnsley

A unique and interactive family-friendly history tour will be traveling around Barnsley this summer as part of a Cultural project led by Barnsley Museums.

The Un-Naturalists tour, performed by Markmark Productions, will showcase the borough's history in a new way. Be prepared to be amazed as they take the facts, bend them, and shape them any way they want them, resulting in a comedy experience that is guaranteed to raise a smile and prompt a few questions about the town's fascinating past.

People can spot them around all of Barnsley's principal towns, beginning with Cudworth on Thursday, 13 July, later performing in Wombwell, Penistone, Elsecar, Royston, Goldthorpe and Hoyland throughout July and August.

The tours are free to take part in, however, booking is advisable at www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-un-naturalists-summer-tour-2023-tickets-669388447867

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Barnsley’s fascinating history can be experienced in many different ways and in lots of different settings. This fun tour will not only have people giggling, but will also offer a wonderful insight into the town's past. People from right across the borough can take part and will be enjoyed no matter what their age. The tours are part of a wider project that takes cultural experiences out to our towns offering interesting and engaging experiences.”

The Un-Naturalists Summer Tour has been funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Arts Council England. It is taking place as part of Barnsley's Cultural Development Fund programme, Barnsley Connects, a project which supports local artists and brings new cultural experiences to the borough.
